The Last Word - Cocktail

  • 22 ml gin
  • 22 ml green Chartreuse
  • 22 ml maraschino liqueur
  • 22 ml lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • Garnish: roasted cherry (optional)

This is how The Last Word cocktail is prepared:

Pour the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well chilled.

Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

Garnish with a roasted cherry (optional).

The Last Word was first served in the Detroit Athletic Club around 1915. It was created shortly before the start of Prohibition, probably by a bartender named Frank Fogarty, and is one of the most successful drinks from the Prohibition era in the cocktail canon.
